Baby Car Mirror for Trucks and SUVs: What Fits and What to Check First

Leo&Ella Team·

A baby car mirror doesn't care whether your back seat is in a pickup, an SUV, a minivan or a sedan. It hangs from the headrest behind your baby's car seat, so the headrest is what decides whether it fits. Leo&Ella's mirrors are made for cars, SUVs, minivans, vans and trucks. What differs from one vehicle to the next is the headrest, and that's the part to check.

The Short Answer

  • Two exposed posts (you can raise the headrest and see two metal posts): the Large or Medium mirror. They mount with two adjustable buckle straps.
  • One molded piece, no posts: the Tesla & Fixed mirror. It hangs from a continuous elastic loop, with no straps or Velcro. It also fits adjustable headrests, so it works on either kind.
  • No headrest at all behind your baby's seat: neither mirror has anything to attach to. We'd rather say so than sell you one that won't hold. The middle seat and no-headrest guide covers what to do.

Why "Truck or SUV" Is the Wrong Question

Shoppers often ask about a vehicle type, and a vehicle type doesn't tell you what's behind the car seat. Two SUVs from different makers can have different headrests, and so can two pickups. A second row in an SUV and a rear bench in a crew-cab pickup can each have adjustable headrests, fixed ones, or, on some seats, none.

So check the seat itself. Drag the slider to see the same back seat with each kind of headrest and the mirror that goes with it.

On the right a fixed one-piece headrest with no posts, with the mirror on one elastic loop. The mirror is the same size and in the same place in both

Drag to compare: Two posts vs. One piece

Both mirrors are 11.5" x 7.5", so the view is the same. Only the way they hold on changes.

Three Checks Before You Buy

Three cards: 1 Find the headrest, look at the seat behind the driver or passenger; 2 Match the mirror, two posts means Large or Medium, one piece means Tesla and Fixed; 3 Test the view, wiggle it, then check your baby in the rearview mirror
Find the headrest, match the mirror, test the view.

1. Find the headrest

Look at the seat where your baby's car seat goes. Pull the headrest up: if two posts slide out and there's a gap beneath it, it's adjustable. If it won't come up and has no gap, it's fixed. The fixed headrest install guide shows how to tell them apart.

2. Match the mirror

| Your headrest | Mirror | Mount | | -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- | | Adjustable, two exposed posts | Large (11.5" x 7.5") or Medium (10" x 6.8") | Two adjustable buckle straps | | Fixed, one piece (or adjustable) | Tesla & Fixed (11.5" x 7.5") | Patent-pending continuous elastic loop |

If you aren't sure which size, Large vs. Medium compares them on the same headrest.

3. Test the view

A mirror that fits can still show the wrong thing. Once it's on, wiggle it: it shouldn't slide or sag. Then, with your baby in the seat, sit where you drive and angle the mirror (it turns 360°) until their face shows in your rearview mirror. Where to put it has the sight-line details.

Seat position comes first

Put the car seat where you can install it correctly and snugly in the back seat, following the car seat's and the vehicle's manuals (that's NHTSA's advice). The mirror comes second. Don't move a car seat to a worse spot to make a mirror fit. See NHTSA's car seat guidance.

Taller Vehicles, Longer Cabins

Trucks and SUVs sit higher and often have a longer back seat, which can change how you aim the mirror. The mirror is what you adjust, not the headrest: you tilt it until your baby's face shows in your rearview mirror from your normal driving position. A bigger mirror shows more of the rear seat, so if the rearview angle is tricky in a larger vehicle, the 11.5" x 7.5" Large or Tesla & Fixed gives you the most glass to work with.

If you'd rather not depend on a reflection at all, the mirror vs. camera comparison covers the Camio, a wired 1080p camera with a 5-inch monitor and night vision. Its camera straps to a back-seat headrest too, so the same headrest check applies.

Quick Answers

Does a Leo&Ella mirror fit a pickup truck? If the seat behind your baby has a headrest, yes. The Large and Medium are listed for cars, SUVs, minivans, vans and trucks, and the Tesla & Fixed for sedans, SUVs and trucks. Check the headrest type to pick between them.

Does it fit a third row? Only if that seat has a headrest your baby's seat sits in front of. We don't claim any particular vehicle's third row.

What if my truck's rear seat has no headrest? Then there's nothing to hold a mirror, and we don't claim otherwise.

Which mirror is quickest to fit? The Tesla & Fixed takes under 10 seconds. The Large and Medium take under 30 seconds. None need tools, and they arrive fully assembled.

Is there a free sunshade? Each mirror comes with a free car window sunshade 2-pack while supplies last. It may ship separately.

Check your headrest, then shop the Tesla & Fixed headrest baby car mirror for fixed and adjustable headrests, or the Large mirror for adjustable ones.
